PROTECT THE PAINTED TURTLES
A portion from the proceeds from every bottle is donated to the Habitat Conservation
Trust Fund
The Painted Turtle is the most widely distributed of the 49
species in North
America and is the only native freshwater turtle in British
Columbia.
The Painted Turtle faces many threats within its limited range
in Southern BC. The specific habitat it requires - wetlands and
ponds for hiding and foraging, adjacent to upland areas with
soils suitable for nesting - is found in very few places within
this range. Alteration or destruction of its habitat is probably
the main threat faced by the Painted Turtle. The Painted Turtle
has been placed on British Columbia’s Blue list. This list
identifies species that are believed to be vulnerable to further
declines in abundance. Habitat conservation is the key to
protecting all wildlife species. The Habitat Conservation Trust
Fund invests in projects to conserve the biological diversity of
Canada’s fish, wildlife, and habitats so that people can use,
enjoy, and benefit from these resources. For more information,
